Serene Learning Environment

High School special education teacher Kaitlyn Baxter shared how the "Serene Learning Environment" granted by HFEE allowed her to create a dedicated sensory space for students. Thanks to sensory tools such as noise-canceling headphones, tactile bins, calming sounds, weighted supports, and communication buttons, students are now able to de-escalate more effectively and return to learning sooner.

"I cannot thank the Hayward Foundation of Educational Enrichment enough and the district enough for believing in this vision. You have given my students a place where they feel safe, calm, and capable—where they can learn not only academics, but real-world skills that will support them long after they leave Hayward High School. Thank you for supporting our students and for helping make this space a reality."
